Lutein and zeaxanthin linked to reduce risk of late age-related macular degeneration

In this systematic literature review and meta-analysis, researchers evaluated the relationship between dietary intake of lutein and zeaxanthin and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) risk. The results showed dietary intake of lutein and zeaxanthin was significantly related with a reduction in risk of late AMD and a statistically significant inverse association between these carotenoids and neovascular AMD risk. No significant relationship was found for lutein and zeaxanthin intake and early AMD.
